The Sharks started as a group of coaches grabbing lunch in Calgary — just a few longtime friends talking hockey, sharing ideas, and reflecting on the game they love. But when the pandemic hit, the meetups went virtual… and something special happened.
Every Thursday, what began as a small Calgary tradition became a North America-wide Zoom call for coaches at all levels — grassroots to elite — to connect, challenge ideas, and keep learning. Some weeks are focused on X’s and O’s; others are about culture, leadership, or the heart of coaching. There’s no agenda, no ego — just shared passion.
The name “Sharks” came from coach Tim Bothwell, who reminded the group that sharks need to keep swimming or they die. These coaches have the same mindset: never stop moving, never stop growing.
Everyone is welcome. Whether you’re a volunteer in minor hockey, a university coach, a player transitioning behind the bench, or just someone who loves talking the game — there’s a place for you on the call.
The Core Group
Each week, Wally leads the charge — recording, editing, and sharing segments from the 2-hour conversation so more coaches can benefit from the exchange of ideas.
Let me know if you'd like a shorter version for mobile display, or want to add quotes from Wally or any of the other Sharks. I can also turn this into a graphic-friendly version with headings and callouts for GoDaddy's builder.
